Description

obsocialbookmarker is a social bookmarking plugin which adds user-submission links at the bottom of each post for various social bookmarking sites which allows your visitors to easily submit them in a number of social bookmarking sites.

Bookmarks of your choice and position of bookmarks can be configured from the options page.

Installation is as simple as copy and paste and in case of upgradation simple as overwriting the old files. No need to touch your template or anything.

You have the option to choose which bookmarks you want to enabled, and in what positions.

I have tried my best to make installation as simple as possible without sacrificing any usability.

Installation

  1. Upload ‘obsocialbookmarker’ folder to the ‘/wp-content/plugins/’ directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
  3. Go to “Options”->”obsocialbookmarker” and you will have choice to do following two things
    • Tick the position where you want to show the Bookmarks.
    • Tick the Bookmarks which you want to show.

Upgradation

Upgradation where old version is less than version 5 and new version which you want to install is version 5 or greater

1. Don’t deactivate the plugin, very important if you want to preserve old configuration.

2. Delete the ‘obsocialbookmarker.php’ in the ‘/wp-content/plugins/’ directory

3. Upload ‘obsocialbookmarker’ folder to the ‘/wp-content/plugins/’ directory

4. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress

5. Go to “Options”->”obsocialbookmarker” and you will have choice to do following two things

  • Tick the position where you want to show the Bookmarks.
  • Tick the Bookmarks which you want to show.

Thats it, you are ready to rock!

    Hi,
this plugin looks nice, but is it possible to add a link to Mister Wong? That may be important for german users.

This is the second try to post the feedback, the first one was blocked cause I’ve disabled javascript. Just take a look at http://bueltge.de at the Plugin “JS AntiSpam”. This adds an antispam question to the comment form if javascript is not supportet. In my own blog I’m using it as well.

    Best regards,
    Markus

Thanks for the Plugin. How could I add a line of text before the icons? Could this be added into the plugins control feature?

  • 8 Bill Burge // Nov 2, 2007 at 4:03 am

First of all, your plugin is great. I was just glazing over with all the variables trying to do something similar when I found yours. So — hooray for people smarter than me!

    Second,
The Icons all show up above a div that I have on my site that I’d rather have it fall below. I can’t quite figure out how plugins find their placement in posts, but I’m assuming there’s some way to alter your plugin to make it fall somewhere else in the post.

    Thanks Bill!

Hooray for the people who can think of new ideas and never stop thinking!

Its does not matter who is first!

    Hi,
I’ve installed the plugin and its a great tool. Thanks!

I found one little bug though. In line 252 (version 4.0) of the php file there is a double quote at the end of the facebook link. This produces two double quotes in the output, giving errors in XHTML validation.

I removed the double quote and now everything looks fine.

Thanks again for the wonderful plugin,

    Holger

I’m new to this whole blog thing and on a learning rampage. Would it be possible to tell me how to put the ” Digg It ” icon into my wordpress site using this tool. I mean where to put it in wordpress in order for this tool to use it in the post?

    Help would be much appreciated

    Tam

    Remember I’m a newbie

  • 14 rajs // Nov 24, 2007 at 10:19 am

    Hi Tam,

    Its easy.

Step 1: Download the plugin and unzip it in some local directory.

Step 2: Upload ‘obsocialbookmarker.php’ from local direcctory to the ‘/wp-content/plugins/’ directory at server.

Step 3: Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress.

Step 4: Go to “Options”>”obsocialbookmarker” and you will have choice to do following two things
    a. Tick the position where you want to show the Bookmarks.
    b. Tick the Bookmarks which you want to show.

    Thats it!

    Regards,

    Raj

    Hello Raj,

Most excellent plugin! Thanks so much for making this freely available!

    Two things;

    - furl icon did not seem to be at the URL in the plugin, i just grabbed another one from google image search and ULed it to my server.

    - Bookmarks Position Options
I set the plugin for ‘Place After Each Post’ and it displayed before the tag and at the end of the post. Is that the way it is supposed to be?

    Again, thanks much!

  • 16 Arizona Scanning // Dec 5, 2007 at 4:59 am

    Hello,

Very nice plug-in and sure makes my life easier!

I installed the latest version 4.0 and noticed some of the icons are missing.

How do I fix it so that all the icons appear (I have all the icons enabled except for the overseas icons in Mister Wong.

    Thank you!

  • 17 rajs // Dec 5, 2007 at 11:29 am

    Hi Arizona,

Please download the plugin again and replace the files.

I have change the image source link to plugin parent site.

    It will be okay now.

But if you want to change the image source link then do as follows:

    Open the main file (obsocialbookmarker.php).

For each icon, you will find line something like as follows (this is for “furl”):
    , ‘img’ => ‘”https://oraclebrains.com/download/obsocialbookmarker/images/furl.gif” width=”16″ height=”16″ alt=”Furl”‘

You just need to change the url here.

    Any problem let me know!

    Regards,

    Raj

    Hi Peko,

    Thanks for your comments!

    You raised two points:
    - furl icon did not seem to be at the URL in the plugin, i just grabbed another one from google image search and ULed it to my server.

Yes lof of people complaining about it. But what to do, it is depending on its parent site.

Any way I have made some changes recently and change source of all image link to plugin parent site. This way atleast I will be in control and will be able to guide my colleagues of url changes.

Just want to point out, I don’t want make installation complicated thats why I have not made the images part of the plugin.

    - Bookmarks Position Options
I set the plugin for ‘Place After Each Post’ and it displayed before the tag and at the end of the post. Is that the way it is supposed to be?

Yes it is suppose to show after post content!

    Regards,

    Raj

  • 19 ncfcb // Dec 8, 2007 at 9:02 am

Just installed the plugin and it works, but is there a way to have the images only show up on the single post page, and not on the homepage underneath each post or excerpt?

  • 20 rechazz // Jan 2, 2008 at 5:00 am

Hi! If I use obsocialbookmarker, I get some errors:
    “Fehler: this.filters has no properties
    Quelldatei: https://oraclebrains.com/?page_id=132
    Zeile: 1″
    Or:
“Warnung: Unbekannte Eigenschaft ‘filter’. Deklaration ignoriert.
    Quelldatei: https://oraclebrains.com/?page_id=132
    Zeile: 0″.
So it seems like there are some CSS Errors with “filter”..? This is only since obsocialbookmarker shows transparent icons.

Thanks for an excellent plug in.

I’ve just upgraded to 5.1.6 and as a newcomer to Word Press I’ve found your solution to be simple to install, easy to set up and easy for readers to use. 5 star recommendation from me. ;)

One small edit that I noticed is in Line 557 of obsocialbookmarker.php where the Spurl service has the Title for BackFlip.

It’s an easy fix for a non programmer and I guess you’ll probably update it with your next version.

Thanks again for a top solution.

  • 22 Ron // Jan 24, 2008 at 8:58 pm

This installed very easy but 1 problem I have, when I click on any of the bookmarks, it always goes to a page not displayed and a wierd url string. Looking at the url redirect in my address bar I almost think maybe it has something to do with the redirect php code, but then again I have no clue, but will look. I also thought maybe this don’t redirect right because of a chmod that may need done to read something, I am lost why, any suggestions?
The wordpress blog I am starting with a addon template you can see here and click on a bookmark and maybe you can direct me what may be wrong.

  • 23 Ron // Jan 24, 2008 at 9:28 pm

I am writing again to my last post, I have found the problem why the bookmarks were not going to the bookmark sites.
I have my wordpress in a sub directory /wp/ and it was not adding the /wp/ to the url when clicking on the bookmark icons.
I found on line 659 in the socialbookmarker.php page after $plugin_url = I had to add a /wp to include the sub folder after the domain address in my address bar to let it go to the correct redirect.
    Now it works fine.

Thanks Ron for using the Plugin even after so much trouble!

Please do try download the plugin again and try to check whether it works without need to change anything in coding.

I have made slight change in location you pointed out.

  • 26 paul // Jan 29, 2008 at 8:16 am

    raj,
Would it be possible to add the ability to auto-bookmark and post to all of the social bookmarks.

In other words lets say i write a blog post, and then when i publish, then it will automatcially post this to all the social bookmarks, withpt having to click each one after the other.

(obviously the poster would have to have an account with each socla bookmark service)

    what do you think?

  • 27 rajs // Jan 29, 2008 at 11:11 am

    Hi Paul,

    That’s a good idea.

    I too faces same problem.

Let me think on these lines!

    Regards,

    Raj

  • 28 yoshi // Feb 6, 2008 at 9:54 am

Thanks for a great plugin. I’d like to reiterate ncfcb’s comment and see if it’s possible to have an option to show the bookmarks only on single post pages instead of like the homepage.

Also, I’m using asides, but I can’t use them because the obsocialbookmarks show up on the sidebar, which really breaks the look. Any way to not show the bookmarks according to a category?

    thanks again!

is an option for Myspace planned?

  • 31 Stefan Braun // Mar 17, 2008 at 8:10 pm

    Hi, great plugin!

It doesn’t seem to work correctly with me on my blog homepage. If I click to “show bookmarks”, only the last bookmark at the bottom of the page will be shown. (FF2.0.0.12)
If I use IE it’s the opposite problem. The bookmarks are all open and cannot be closed.

It’s working perfectly at every single full article page.

It could be an idea to add a function to show bookmarks only on pages with the complete article but not on excerpt sites…

Any ideas how to sort this out?

    Best wishes
    Stefan

  • 32 rajs // Mar 20, 2008 at 12:44 am

    Hi Stefan,

    I have corrected the bug.

Just replaced your plugin files with new files from the new version.

Don’t disable the plugin just overwrite, this way all your settings will be preserved.

    Thanks & Regards

Hi! Great plugin but I have 2 problems. In version 5.3.3 there is no de.licio.us ? Also in Firefox the bookmarks are displayed vertically instead of in a line horizontally. Is this is a know issue?

    thx!

    - Chris

  • 35 Chris von Nieda // Mar 20, 2008 at 8:47 am

Hi again! Update to my original comment. This appears to be a theme related issue (vertical vs horizontal) because when I try other themes it works fine. But I still don’t have de.licio.us in 5.3.3.

    thx,

    Chris

  • 36 rajs // Mar 20, 2008 at 1:36 pm

    Hi Chris,

    Thanks!

While enabling the bookmark, you will find de.licio.us under country USA not International.

Once enabled it should be ok.

    Any problem let me know!

    Thanks & Regards,

    Raj

    Hi,

I like your add on very much. But for some days now the logos are not shown any longer. They are linked from your address: https://oraclebrains.com/download/obsocialbookmarker/images/technorati.png

Can I transfer them to my webspace and link them from there?

    Hi Rajender!

    Nice plugin ;)

I would thank you very much if you can include http://meneame.net (a digg like site very popular in Spain).

If you need help with the spanish language used at the site, dont hesitate to contact me.

Can you post some screenshots so that it help others decide before they try?

  • 43 Ron // Nov 10, 2008 at 11:34 pm

Carston you can always try typing in the address search bar for technorati.png It brings up sites that have the icons needed.
I see my post may be a little late and you may of got the images already, but future ways to look for things easy is using the address bar for searching.
I would of replied earlier but didn’t get this in my mail.
